Rainy Winter in Oregon : The Willamette Valley in Oregon is known for it's rainy winters, and this one has been especially wet. The cameras and I went out to Sonnenberg Farm Jan 15th in search of mud and horses in winter. It was an overcast gray day with intermittent light rain. The property has pretty good drainage, so I had to hunt a bit for some mud, but finally found some. Here is some of what we found,

oh and I found a clinic too, given by probably the most profound influence on my eye for photographing dressage, Dietrich von Hopffgarten, a german riding master. His words echo in my brain in one form or another when I aim my lens at a horse in work, and for his teachings, I am most grateful. Dietrich was always for the horse first.

Photo was taken January 15, 2006 at Sonnenberg Farm. I wish the quality of these images was better, but I was working in low light at slow shutter speed and the camera was hand held, so whatcha gonna do.
This is the sad part of recording the images of people and animals we love, but it also is gratifying to be able to provide such images when the need arises.
